Know what we check. Know what we don't assume.

KnowYourFood is designed to turn a packaged-food label into a concise, practical decision aid — without inventing missing information.

What KnowYourFood checks

Nutrition: calories, protein, carbohydrates, sugar, added sugar, fibre, fat, saturated fat and sodium when verified.
Ingredients: ingredients and practical things worth noticing, including relevant allergens and added sweeteners when identifiable.
Food suitability: separate practical guidance for kids, diabetes, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Front-of-pack claims: helps you look beyond claims such as high protein, high fibre or sugar free.

How it works

1Scan

Photograph the front of the packaged food.

2Identify

KnowYourFood tries to identify the exact brand, product and variant.

3Verify

If the front is not enough, it can ask for the nutrition or ingredients panel rather than inventing missing numbers.

4Decide

See what's good, what to watch and who should be more cautious.

Dietary categories

🥬 Vegetarian friendly

Uses the Indian vegetarian convention: egg is not considered vegetarian. Products containing egg, meat, poultry, fish, shellfish, gelatin, animal fat or meat stock are not classified as vegetarian friendly.

🌱 Vegan friendly

No animal-derived ingredients. That excludes dairy, egg, honey, gelatin and other clearly animal-derived ingredients.

If the ingredients or verified product information is incomplete or ambiguous, KnowYourFood shows UNCLEAR instead of guessing.

Frequently asked questions

Can I scan the front of a food packet?
Yes. Start with the front. If the exact product or nutrition cannot be reliably verified, KnowYourFood can ask for the back label.
Is KnowYourFood medical advice?
No. It provides general, label-based nutrition information. Diabetes, allergies, child-health, pregnancy and breastfeeding decisions should be discussed with a qualified professional.
Why might a second photo be needed?
The front of a package often does not contain complete nutrition facts. KnowYourFood should not invent missing information.
A note about AI
KnowYourFood uses AI to identify and interpret packaged-food information. It is intended for general nutrition understanding, not diagnosis or medical clearance. Always check the physical pack when the image is unclear or a product formulation may have changed.
Traveller mode

Food intelligence for unfamiliar places.

When you travel, a food can look vegetarian or harmless but contain local ingredients you do not expect. Traveller Mode compares the food with your saved Food Passport and highlights common preparation risks without pretending uncertainty is certainty.

🟢 GOOD FIT

What we can verify fits your saved preferences.

🟡 ASK FIRST

A local ingredient or preparation needs confirmation.

🔴 SKIP

A verified ingredient conflicts with something you avoid.

🗣️ WHAT TO SAY

When relevant, KnowYourFood can give you a simple phrase to ask a server about an ingredient.

Important: “Usually contains” is not the same as “confirmed.” KnowYourFood should show ASK FIRST whenever the exact preparation is uncertain.
